This contest will allow you to test your programming skills by creating an artificial intelligence (strategy) to control a wizard in a special game world. The contest rules are based on a popular computer game genre MOBA. In each game you will confront 5 strategies of other players. At the same time, you will have 4 allies. Each five strategies make a faction: Academy or Renegades. The main goal of the faction is to destroy an opponent faction base. The main personal goal of each wizard is to gain maximal possible amount of points. The winner of the game, as well as other places, is determined by the gained score. A player is given points when his wizard deals damage, destroys or is just hanging nearby during death of opposite faction’s unit, as well as for some other actions. Each player of a faction is given a significant amount of points in case of reaching the main faction goal.
Rules of the game almost entirely correspond to the classical canons of the genre. Faction bases are connected with three roads (top, middle and bottom ones), between which a forest is located. There are guardian towers on the roads: 2 per faction on each road. So, in the beginning of the game there are 14 buildings. Every now and then faction bases generate 3 equal minion squads: one for each road. The squads follow the roads to the opposite faction’s base, attacking any enemies on their way.
The championship consists of several stages, starting with qualification in the Sandbox. The Sandbox is a contest that is being held during the whole period of the championship. During each stage a player has some rating value — an indicator of how well his strategy plays the game.
In Round 1 you are to learn the basics of the game and implement basic control of a wizard. Each game of this stage will take 10 players and divide them in two factions. In this stage wizards know only how to swing their staff and cast a “Magic missile”, and the health amount of all the buildings is half from normal. The damage coefficient on friendly wizard is 25%. No matter what stage, a wizard is not able to damage friendly minions and buildings. Round 1, as well as all further stages, consists of two parts, and a break between them (with Sandbox available) for participants to improve their strategies. In each part only the last submitted strategy before its beginning will take part. The games are held in waves. Each wave each player will participate in exactly one game. The number of waves each part is dictated by capabilities of the testing system, but is guarantied not less than ten. 300 participants with the best ratings will pass to Round 2. Also, 60 best players from the Sandbox (at the moment of the beginning of Round 2) will be allowed to participate in Round 2.
In Round 2 you will have to improve your skills and learn the mechanics of leveling your wizards and upgrading them with new skills. A good choice of the skills to learn is a key to winning in this stage. Games are held in the same way they are in Round 1. Buildings have normal amount of life, and the damage coefficient on friendly wizards is 50%. The game is harder since a part of weak strategies from Round 1 will be eliminated and you will have to face stronger players. After Round 2 the best 50 strategies will pass to the Finals. Also, 10 players with the greatest rating in the Sandbox will be allowed to the Finals.
The Finals is the most serious stage. After elimination only the strongest will remain, and in each game you will face one of them. That’s right, all the five wizards of your faction will be controlled by 5 copies of your strategy. And all five wizards of the enemy faction is five copies of your opponent’s strategy. Damage coefficient on friendly wizards is 100%. To determine the winner, scores of each wizard of a faction will be summed up. Other rules are the same as in Round 2. Games of the Finals are held in a different way. The stage is still two parts, but the games are not held in waves anymore. In each part there will be a game for each pair of the Finals participants. If time and capabilities of the system allow it, the operation will be repeated.
The best and more talented “wizards” will receive enjoyable prizes:
